© Provided by CNET The message you get the first time you run x86 software on an M1 Mac. Until then, you'll need Rosetta, Apple's x86 emulator. Some others are coming soon, such as Adobe's Lightroom, although Photoshop, Illustrator and Premiere - all programs I use regularly - are tantalizingly out of reach, coming in M1-native forms sometime in 2021. There's also DaVinci Resolve, a video editing app and Microsoft Office, both in beta form. Mostly Apple's own apps, which already ran great on Macs even before this. Some apps - but not many as of yet - have been optimized as universal apps to run natively on the M1. The real difficulty comes in deciding if the M1 Mac ecosystem is ready for you and your specific needs. Dan Ackerman/CNET Advice for early adopters

Yes, benchmark tests are different than real-world use, but at least they give us a standard to judge similar things by.
I got a chance to test all three new systems - the MacBook Air, MacBook Pro and Mac Mini - those performance boosts were confirmed when compared to the early 2020 versions. By switching away from Intel chips to its own Apple silicon M1 design, the latest Macs were much faster than previous versions, even faster than most Windows PCs. The early performance numbers proffered by Apple and others looked promising. © Dan Ackerman/CNETĬomparing the new M1 Macs with their Intel counterparts at the CNET Labs Brooklyn outpost. Has anyone got experience of video editing on either or both the 20 Mini models? I'd normally go for the latest, 2014 Mini, but I read a review that said its lack of cores could be an issue with video editing. One of my kids intends to follow a film-making route at school, so I guess we need a machine that will cope better with Premiere Pro.Ĭompared to the mid-range 2012 model, the mid-range 2014 Mini has better a graphics card, but fewer cores and the RAM can't be upgraded by the user. I've got a mid 2012 Mac Mini which struggles with Adobe Premiere Pro CC. DV/HDV capture is still available with Premiere Pro on Windows.Ĭould anyone give me a steer as to which Mac Mini model to buy? You can still edit DV/HDV files that have previously been captured. This change does not impact other forms of tape capture. Starting with macOS 10.15 Catalina, Premiere Pro, Audition, and Adobe Media Encoder no longer support the capture of DV and HDV over FireWire.
